Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for a Dining Service Supervisor who will hire and schedule Dining Services hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operation and within budget, manages Bi-weekly payroll function.  Assist the Board Plan Manager and the Cash Operations Manager to track and address attendance problems and issues.  Act as the Dining Services liaison to Human Resources. Provides oversight at the direction of management to coordinate routine work activities of staff engaged in food service operations. Aspects of oversight include operational (food preparation/food service), financial, personnel.  Will be assigned to location(s) as needed. Compensation includes and excellent benefits package.

  1. Manage employee scheduling and personnel utilization ensuring budgetary goals are met and schedules meet the needs of the organization
  2. Coordinate training programs for all hourly employees; yearly in August, January and as needed
  3. Manage the Bi-weekly payroll within the Dayforce system and prepare reports as required or as requested
  4. Manage all employee benefit time and track employee usage
  5. Manage and oversee student worker program to include hiring, training, scheduling, termination and incentive program
  6. Collaborate with Human Resources on personnel problems/issues, hiring, terminations; provide paperwork and take corrective actions as necessary.
  7. Through the HR Hiring software system; assist the Cash Operations Manager & HR to handle employee hiring, training and orientation
  8. Lead a team of non-exempt staff members in residential dining halls in full compliance with all food safety regulations, occupational safety regulations, and customer service expectations.
  9. Supervise, train and evaluate staff. Train personnel in Food Preparation, Food Safety, Sanitation, Inventory Control & Rotation, Customer Service, with consideration to those community members with specialty diets or other nutritional needs.
  10. Responsible for the oversight of day-to-day activities of staff and assigning duties and responsibilities for specific work activities to meet on-site management goals.
  11. Assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.
  12. Monitor & Maintain food quality and sanitation programs to include use of recipes, portion control and use of leftovers while insuring food safety
  13. Ensure performance expectations and work assignments are clearly communicated and implemented via (among other methods) regular coaching and mentoring.
  14. Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with Leads & Hourly Staff via mentoring, two-way communication, timely feedback, and constant visibility in the work unit.
  15. Ensure that staff are adhering to department, state and federal food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures and requirements; and that they are maintaining appropriate dating, labeling, and rotation of all food items.
  16. Special projects as assigned by Director of Dining Services.
  1. Associates degree in food service or related field or commensurate education/experience
  2. Must be Servsafe or equivalent certified.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  4. Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office;Knowledge prefered in  Banner, Hiretouch, and Dayforce
  6. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, positive leadership characteristics, and conflict resolution skills.
  7. High integrity needed to handle confidential information
  8. Attention to detail
  9. Well-organized, able to work under pressure, plan and accomplish goals
  10. Little travel required
