Connecticut College is conducting a national search for am Oracle and MSSQL Database Administrator.  The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the optimum performance, integrity, security and availability of enterprise Oracle and SQL Server databases and the installation, maintenance, support and monitoring of enterprise applications used throughout the College. This position will oversee and work collaboratively with the Ellucian database administrators responsible for the Ellucian Managed Cloud Oracle databases.  Compensation includes and excellent benefits package.

  1. Oversee and collaborate with Ellucian database administrators responsible for the Ellucian Managed Cloud Oracle databases to ensure the needs of the college are met for performance, uptime and script implementations, as well as any technical issues that may arise.
  2. Support the enterprise MS SQL databases by providing operational database services, monitoring, database optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  3. Provide support and maintain enterprise administrative applications including implementation, operational support, maintenance, and server storage capacity management.
  4. Manage change and configuration control to protect integrity of software and systems. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  5. Contribute to development and success of Enterprise Systems and IS division by sharing information, teamwork and performing related duties as assigned. 
  6. Support and maintain Oracle databases On-Premise and hosted at AWS
  7. Develop and maintain technical proficiency by learning and using new software, and tools.  Attend training sessions, seminars, and conferences.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  2. 4+ years Oracle server administration (RMAN, Performance Monitoring, Create/Upgrade databases (dbua, dbca, etc…), cloning, patching, security)
  3. 4+ years MS SQL server administration (e.g., stored procedures, triggers, functions, views, constraints and indexes, clustering, “Always On”), database design and development experience
  4. Experience in troubleshooting performance issues with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  5. Understanding of data modeling techniques.   
  6. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  7. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  8. Knowledge of ITIL and change management processes
  9. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  10. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  11. Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines.
  12. Ability to work independently on multiple assignments and to work collaboratively within a team
  13. Thorough understanding of how technology enables a college's mission.
  14. Requires occasional after-hours and weekend work.

 

Preferred:

  1. Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory, IIS, Windows Cluster
  2. Prefer SQL 2017 Server Certification
  3. Prefer experience with GIT
  4. Prefer experience with IBI WebFOCUS
  5. Prefer experience with Ellucian Banner ERP
  6. Prefer experience with Linux OS
  7. VMWare experience, a plus
