Connecticut College is conducting a national search for a Quantitative Skills Director who will create a vision to implement a state-of-the-art Quantitative Skills Center, and will assume responsibility for coordination, oversight, monitoring and assessment of quantitative support as part of student support services in collaboration with our Academic Resource Center as well as faculty and staff development in concert with our Center for Teaching and Learning.  This position supports faculty, staff and students in STEM disciplines, including Economics.  This posiiton will remain open until filled.
 
The director possesses significant knowledge of quantitative methods across the STEM curriculum and their importance for a variety of audiences and purposes. The director also seeks to expand personal knowledge and understanding of educational inequities and other factors that contribute to gaps in outcomes by social identity, including race, class, gender, and ability.  Compensation includes an robust benefit package.
  • Supervise one staff member and the STEM+ peer mentors and tutors.
  • Communicate with faculty to identify areas of overlap in quantitative skills development between departments and be proactive in connecting those areas.
  • Coordinate with the Center for Teaching and Learning to offer programming for faculty around quantitative skill development and assist faculty in the dissemination of new pedagogies and technologies across the curriculum. 
  • Provide faculty and staff development in offering inclusive pedagogies that support student outcomes across diverse social identities.
  • Implement a formal quantitative skills development training program appropriate for STEM+ peer support. 
  • Consult with individual students with questions about quantitative skills or skill development as referred by faculty and staff.
  • Monitor the academic progress of assigned students including maintaining regular session logs for each student, and completing all academic assessment tools as needed.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research on systematic assessments of student learning.
  • Work cooperatively with Advancement Officers to identify and cultivate continuing support for the QSC.
  • Oversight of the QSC programming budget.
  • Assess center effectiveness according to best practices, and initiate program changes as necessary; research trends including technology related to strategic learning, and keep abreast of professional issues related to quantitative skills and support centers.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Academic Support in providing effective and timely academic support to Connecticut College students.
  • Facilitate meetings with the QSC Advisory Board twice per semester.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree, Ph.D. preferred, with commensurate experience in a STEM or other quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated understanding and curiosity of the liberal arts experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of techniques that support college-level learning.
  • Integrity and discretion with confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Capacity to plan and implement annual goals.
