Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for an Electrician/General Maintenance worker to work under the direction of the Manager Mechanical Trades, and will operate machinery, perform a variety of electrical work, maintain and repair kitchen equipment, building heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout campus.  Perform general carpentry and other maintenance type duties as required.  Compensation includes an excellent benefit package.

  1. Adjust, maintain and repair electrical, mechanical and pneumatic controls (120 volt and below)
  2. Perform general carpentry and other maintenance type duties as required
  3. Maintain and repair kitchen equipment
  4. Operate, maintain and repair sophisticated HVAC, refrigeration equipment and swimming pool equipment
  5. Perform preventative maintenance including inspecting equipment, inventorying equipment and  setting up PM schedules, oiling and greasing, changing filters, adjusting and renewing belts, cleaning traps and strainers and making  adjustments
  6. Brazing, soldering, welding and pipe-fitting
  7. Use precision measuring and test equipment
  8. Operate a variety of equipment, machines and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition
  9. Install, connect, test and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes including climate control, security and communications. 
  10. Using blueprints to locate circuits, outlets, load centers, panel board and other equipment
  11. Insure all work complies with the National Electric Code and with State and local building codes
  12. Place conduit inside walls or other concealed areas, install/repair electrical switches and outlets and pull insulated wires as required; repair/replace breakers and circuit breakers
  13. Assist other maintenance personnel as may be required
  14. Maintain shop equipment and clean shop spaces
  15. Respond to emergencies and function as a member of the physical plant callback team
  16. Confer with members of the College community to resolve problems
  17. Operate a service vehicle as required to perform duties

Must possess a valid State of CT E-2 Journeyman’s license, along with a combination of education, experience, licensing and a demonstrated knowledge of skilled electrical work.  Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the HVAC trade including line up, starting, and stopping systems.  Must posses and maintain a valid driver’s license and tools necessary to perform electrician functions.  Knowledge of OSHA and other safety/health requirements and have basic knowledge in HVAC equipment and systems operation, maintenance, and repair as well as carpentry repairs. Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 75 lbs; ability to estimate labor and material costs, keep simple records and reports, follow oral and written directions, and read and write English; able to work independently with little direction and work at moderate heights. 

 

Thorough applicant credentialing, including criminal records check and pre-placement physical, will be conducted on the selected candidate.
