Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for a Campus Safety Shift Supervisor who is responsible for supervising professional Campus Safety personnel and implements corrective action when necessary. The Supervisor will ensure that all situations from routine to critical/emergency, are handled properly and in accordance with rules and regulations, policy and procedures and all federal, state and local regulations and standards concerning general campus safety, emergency response, and fire safety. This position will be scheduled to work second shift, 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. and is benefits eligible. 

The Campus Safety Supervisor will be responsible to train, supervise and evaluate Campus Safety Officers working campus, athletic and social events (student parties/dances)and for dispatchers; assign and monitor work loads of shift personnel; respond immediately to requests of assistance from officers; ensure that incidents are documented and reported; ensure that completed assignments are timely and accurate and enforce and interpret directives and provide on-scene command authority for all critical incidents and that official radio/other communications are professional and business related.  The Supervisor will prepare special reports or projects as assigned; receiving and reviewing reports from officers; assigning personnel in accordance to campus needs; authorize the opening/securing of Campus building/gates and student lock outs; provide an authoritative voice for the College as the ranking CSS official on duty who must sometimes have assume the duties and responsibilities of the director and assist with shift scheduling, revising and updating of policies and procedures and communicate to staff amd assist with planning security for special events, supervise officers and provide logistical support.

The Campus Safety Supervisor will also possess basic working knowledge of all dispatching, computerized security systems, ex; card access, fire and intrusion alarm systems; assist with the preparation of all incident reports, record keeping and statistical accuracy for internal records as well the federally-mandated Clery report; conduct employee orientation, training and give input on performance evaluations; prepare correspondence regarding security procedures and protocol and conduct traffic control and patrols as necessary along with incident investigations and ensure all reports are accurate, timely and distributed as required. 

Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience in a law enforcement or security related field, including 2 years of supervisory experience required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent knowledge and training. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and take appropriate and timely action; Excellent customer service skills; ability to remain professional in stressful situations; Knowledge of Campus Safety standard operating procedures, College policy and procedure and the law; Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communications skills. Must be able to use reporting software and computer technology to include Microsoft Word, email and excel. Possess basic working knowledge of all dispatching, computerized security systems, ex; card access, fire and intrusion alarm systems, photo ID systems and alarm systems. Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines; High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
