Connecticut College is conducting a national search for an experienced Title IX Coordinator.  The Deputy Title IX Coordinator serves as a key team member in the College’s equity, inclusion, and compliance efforts. Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, the Deputy Title IX Coordinator assesses and manages all incoming reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual or gender-based misconduct to assist in determining whether they allege violations of College policy and supports the Title IX Coordinator in assigning cases for processing and resolution.  Compensation includes an excellent benefits package.

  • Stays abreast of current and emerging regulatory obligations, identifies areas of institutional risk, and develops plans of action for ensuring College policies and standard operating procedures comply with civil rights laws and regulations.
  • Provide appropriate notice of an investigation; determine the extent of an investigation; appoint, train, and supervise investigators; conduct and coordinate investigations; ensure provision of initial supportive measures and remedial actions; assure compliance with timelines; deliver appropriate notice of allegations, duty to warn, and emergency removal; and provide a repository for and source of institutional recordkeeping.
  • In conjunction with the Title IX Coordinator, oversees College-wide compliance with civil rights laws and regulations, including gender equity in athletics.
  • Chair the Bias Incident Review Team (BIRT).
  • The Deputy Title IX Coordinator may conduct investigations into allegations of discrimination or harassment that do not fall under Title IX.
  • The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will review and respond to incident reports and formal complaints with an initial outreach to potential complainants (students, faculty, staff, and third parties), assist with their triage, coordinate and manage complaints through the department’s database system, maintain confidential records in accordance with College policies, engage in collaborative problem-solving and coordinate the provision of supportive measures for impacted parties in a fair and impartial manner that emphasizes excellent communication skills, empathy, and patience. The incumbent assists individuals in navigating campus and department resources, responds to questions as appropriate, and communicates directly with the Title IX Coordinator and Investigators to coordinate investigation plans and to ensure the timely and confidential completion of investigations and informal resolution of complaints.
  • The Deputy Title IX Coordinator assists with the tracking and monitoring of Title IX complaints to meet prescribed deadlines; develops complaint management checklists, protocols and procedures; and assists in the coordination, tracking, and monitoring of Title IX compliance training. The Case Coordinator communicates and follows up with other units and stakeholders as necessary to resolve complaint-related issues.
  • The Deputy Title IX Coordinator serves as the unit’s expert on complaint management software and assists in the creation and maintenance of web-based materials on the department website. The incumbent collects and prepares data related to compliance with College policies and state and federal law, as well as in response to internal and external requests for information. The incumbent assists in data collection for campus climate assessment.
  • The Deputy Title IX Coordinator assists in consistently improving the effectiveness of complaint processing and response protocols to ensure party needs are being met while systemic issues are identified and addressed.
  • General administrative duties include maintaining resolution timelines in compliance with College policies, communicating with campus partners regarding policy enforcement and providing support to the Title IX Coordinator and Investigators.
  • Incumbent may conduct related training as necessary, coordinate hearings under College policies, and complete other duties as assigned.

Master's degree from an accredited institution in a field related to the primary duties and responsibilities of the position plus three (3) years of related experience required.  Must have knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA, affirmative action, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other applicable federal and state civil rights and employment laws, regulations, and court decisions.  Demonstrated knowledge of investigatory procedures related to student and/or employee conduct, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in a higher education setting; ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information appropriately; strong and effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of university community members; exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate a significant caseload; attention to detail.  Must also have the ability to organize, index, and track records to further compliance with regulatory timelines/deadlines; thorough knowledge of office systems to organize information into reports and the capability of handling multiple work priorities. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree in a field related to the primary duties and responsibilities of the position plus three (3) years of related experience
  • Experience working in a higher education or legal environment
  • Demonstrated experience with policies and procedures for responding to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and sexual or gender-based misconduct
  • Proficiency with Maxient or other case management software
  • Substantive training/certification in civil rights compliance and investigations from ATIXA or similar organizations.
