Connecticut College is conducting a regional search for project/utility workers.  The successful candidate will perform various tasks involving setting up and breaking down event equipment, picking up and delivering supplies and material, moving furniture and equipment, providing custodial and maintenance services to maintain clean and attractive areas within assigned buildings.  Position will remain open until filled.  Compensation includes an excellent benefits package.

  • Support events inside and outside by supplying, delivering, installing, and removing a wide variety of material and equipment arranged as requested by the customer using sketches, diagrams, and work orders including:  tents, chairs, tables, podiums, flags, flagpoles, banners, coat racks and other items as requested.
  • Assist custodial activities and be physically present for Commencement, Alumni Reunion weekend, Freshman Day and Parents Weekend; must stay until job is completed on major events.
  • Perform custodial duties including: dusting, mopping, floor finishing and buffing, vacuuming and shampooing of carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms, emptying trash, cleaning windows, and other cleaning tasks.
  • Properly operate assigned vehicles in the performance of duties.
  • Pickup and load into assigned vehicle a wide variety of material and equipment from various offices and locations throughout the Campus and deliver and unload them at their proper destination on or off Campus.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Cover all 2nd shift snow removal for buildings and Presidents House.
  • Assist with debris removal activities.
  • Operate a service vehicle as required to perform duties.
  • Fill in as the mail courier, as needed.

A combination of education and experience that provides a demonstrated knowledge of Project/Utility duties required.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have the ability to effectively and safely operate a variety of vehicles, tools and equipment necessary to carry out assignments including box truck, cube van, cargo van, pickup truck, burnishers, scrubbers, extractors, buffers, and various types of vacuums; ability to read and write English, communicate effectively, read work orders, understand safety procedures and keep written records; ability to safely use chemicals required for the job and work independently with little direction.  Must be well-organized, able to work under pressure; be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds unaided.  Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community; have high integrity needed to handle confidential information and must be available for call back for snow removal

Thorough applicant credentialing, including criminal records check, will be conducted on the selected candidate.
