Connecticut College is conducting a national search for a director of advancement operations (AO) to provide strategic leadership and management of the Advancement Operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, the Director provides vision and management for implementing and maintaining value-added advancement technology to achieve divisional and college-wide goals. This oversight includes, but is not limited to: Information and technology systems, including Advancement technology infrastructure acquisition and administration; data management; gift accounting; reporting; and analytics.  Compensation includes and excellent benefits package.

The Director works closely with Advancement stakeholders and institutional stakeholders to ensure that AO serves divisional and institutional needs and is customer-service oriented and donor-centric. This role aligns technology infrastructure, business processes, and policies with the priorities and resources of the division.

The Director works closely with the Vice President for Advancement and Advancement Directors to reflect the division’s organizational vision and goals both short and long-term. This position supports the Vice President for Advancement and Campaign leadership in developing and implementing campaign initiatives. This role leads Advancement’s data integrity and compliance initiatives, serving as the division's data steward. The Director is responsible for resource allocation within the AO budget and will demonstrate familiarity with the field’s concepts and a command of industry standards and procedures. The position requires judgment and ability to act independently to plan and accomplish goals. 

Essential functions:  

  • Lead Advancement Operations to develop annual and multi-year goals to achieve overall success for the division.
  • Oversee CRM-related division-wide vision, strategic planning, and implementation based on data-driven needs. Provide guidance on CRM priorities and projects. Develop measurements and tactics to achieve goals.
  • Manage CRM technology lifecycle from needs analysis through acquisition and implementation.
  •  Manage business process documentation, training, and adherence to established guidelines.
  • Mange, mentor and supervise a team of seven professionals in CRM management, management information systems, and gift accounting.
  • Manage advancement operations including gift/pledge and biographical records, data analytics, and reporting.
  • Maintain an efficient, collegial, and proactive work environment within Advancement Operations.
  • Manage the compliance and ethical standards of Advancement Operations in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of transferable experience.  Must be proficient in Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis.  Having an understanding of the higher ed fundraising landscape preferred.  Must have a competency in data architecture and data curation principles as it relates to CRM system management, demonstrated approach to collaborative problem solving, strong strategic planning and organizational skills and the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and priorities.   Incumbent also will need superior interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, the ability to think conceptually and analytically and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in support of the division’s and the College’s strategic vision and goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
